Spring is perhaps Voss's best-kept secret. The winter tourists have gone home, the summer tourists have not yet arrived – and in between, Voss lies open and quiet, just for you. The streets are peaceful, the forests alive with birdsong, and nature is slowly waking with a force and colour that only this mountain village can offer.
Life awakens on the farm
In the flower beds outside the barn, the tulips open one by one – carefully, as if they are not quite sure yet. The garden is busy: soil being turned, seeds being sown, plants getting a second chance. In the fields around the farm, work begins again after a long winter.
Much of what grows out here finds its way to the table – as decoration or on the plate. The kitchen at Store Ringheim cooks from what the farm provides – and in spring, every bite tastes of new beginnings.
Voss opens up
The snow still lies white in the mountains as the slopes below begin to turn green. The streams, frozen all winter, find their way again – first as a trickle, then as a song. The air is crisp and cold in the morning, warming gently through the day.
Enjoy Voss without crowds
April and May are months when you have Voss almost to yourself. Many hiking trails reopen. The gondola takes you up into a landscape shifting between winter and spring – depending on how high you go. The waterfalls and fjords are at their most powerful after the snowmelt.
At Store Ringheim you can enjoy an early spring day from the terrace, coffee in hand. No rush. Just what is happening, right now. In the evening, a warm restaurant with ingredients from the farm's own fields awaits – and a peaceful hotel where you will sleep well.
